Machu picchu
Machu Picchu (Old Mountain), also known as the "lost city of the Incas") is a site of pre-Columbian Inca ruins located in a mountainous region at an altitude of about 2,350 m above sea level. Machu Picchu is above the Urubamba valley in Peru, about 70 km northwest of Cusco.
Machu Picchu Is the most famous symbol of the Incan Empire. Built around 1450, but abandoned a hundred years later, when the Spaniards conquered the Incan Empire. This site was forgotten by the international community, but not by the local community. This site was rediscovered by archaeologists from Yale Hiram Bingham III university who rediscovered it in 1911. Since then, Machu Picchu has become an attractive tourist attraction for both local and foreign tourists.
Machu Picchu was built in the ancient Incan style with polished masonry. The main buildings are the Intihuatana, the Temple of the Sun, and the Three Window Room. These places are referred to as the Sacred District of Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historic Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983.In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide internet poll.
